TAPEMEN

TERMS OF USE

The deal, in writing.

Using TAPEMEN — the website, the free calculator, a paid plan, a shared link — means you accept these terms. They are short for a reason: read them. Last updated September 6, 2026.

The short version: your data is yours; a calculation is a tool, not an engineer's stamp — you check it against the code and your inspector; the free allowance is 1 completed calculation a month per person; subscriptions renew until you cancel them from your billing page; and the price you subscribe at is locked for at least 2 years.

1. Who we are and what this covers

TAPEMEN is a project of Voltyx, a licensed electrical contractor in Fremont, California ("TAPEMEN", "we", "us"). These Terms of Use (the "Terms") cover the website at tapemen.com and every sub-domain, the load calculator and any other free tool, the paid plans, the PDF reports and site plans the software produces, shared calculation links, and any support we provide — together, the "Service".

By creating an account, checking out, clicking a button that says you agree, or simply using any part of the Service, you ("you", and if you use TAPEMEN for a company, that company) accept these Terms. If you use TAPEMEN on behalf of a business, you confirm you have the authority to bind it. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

TAPEMEN is made for professional use — electricians, contractors, designers, inspectors and the people who work with them. It is not intended for anyone under 18.

2. Accounts and seats

You need an account to download a report. Keep your password to yourself, keep your email current, and tell us at once if you think someone else is using your account. You are responsible for what happens under it.

A login belongs to one named person. On a Contractor plan the plan owner may add teammates by email up to the number of seats included; each teammate uses their own login. Sharing one login between several people, creating several accounts to stretch the free allowance, or otherwise working around a seat, usage or feature limit is not allowed and lets us close the accounts involved.

3. The free allowance

Apprentice — the free plan — includes 1 completed calculation per calendar month per person. A calculation is "completed" the first time its PDF is downloaded; editing that same project and downloading it again in the same month is free. Starting a new project after the allowance is used requires a paid plan or a one-time payment where we offer one.

We may change the size of the free allowance or what it includes. We will not take away a report you have already downloaded.

4. Paid plans, renewals and cancellation

Paid plans are sold by the month or by the year through Stripe, our payment processor. The price, the plan and the seats included are the ones shown at checkout. Prices exclude any sales or use tax we are required to collect.

Price lock. Whatever price you subscribe at is the price you keep for at least 2 years from the day you subscribe, as long as the subscription stays active. Launch prices are available only until the date shown on the pricing page; after that new subscribers pay the standard price, and existing subscribers keep theirs.

Renewal. A subscription renews automatically at the end of each term for the same term and at your locked price until you cancel. Cancel any time from your billing page (Pricing → Manage plan) — the cancellation takes effect at the end of the current term and you keep access until then. Please cancel from the billing page rather than by email so it is recorded by the payment system; if you have trouble, write to [email protected] and we will help.

Refunds. Fees already paid are not refundable, with two exceptions: if we end your subscription for our own reasons (see Ending things) we refund the unused part of the current term, and if a charge is wrong we correct it. Tips through "Support the project" are gifts and are not refundable.

Failed payments. If a renewal payment fails we retry it and email you. If it cannot be collected, the plan returns to Apprentice; nothing you created is deleted.

5. What a calculation is — and is not

TAPEMEN performs residential service load calculations under the optional method of NEC 220.82 as adopted by the California Electrical Code, and produces reports, site plan sketches and related outputs from the numbers you enter and the property data you confirm. It is a calculator: it does the arithmetic and lays it out the way a permit desk expects to see it.

THE SERVICE AND EVERYTHING IT PRODUCES ARE TOOLS FOR A QUALIFIED PROFESSIONAL. THEY ARE NOT ENGINEERING, LEGAL OR OTHER PROFESSIONAL ADVICE, AND NO OUTPUT IS A SUBSTITUTE FOR YOUR OWN REVIEW. YOU ARE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR VERIFYING EVERY INPUT (NAMEPLATES, AREAS, EQUIPMENT), FOR CHECKING THE RESULT AGAINST THE NEC, THE CALIFORNIA ELECTRICAL CODE, LOCAL AMENDMENTS, UTILITY REQUIREMENTS AND THE INTERPRETATION OF THE AUTHORITY HAVING JURISDICTION, AND FOR EVERY DESIGN, INSTALLATION OR PERMIT DECISION MADE WITH IT. WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY SUCH DECISION.

Property Autofill draws on public records and third-party data sources. Those records can be out of date or wrong. Treat autofilled values as a starting point and confirm them on site.

6. Your data

Everything you enter — project details, addresses, loads, the calculations and reports you create — is yours. We do not sell it and we do not use it to advertise to anyone.

So that the Service can work, you give us permission to store, process, back up and display your data to you and to the people you share it with (for example the teammates on your Contractor plan, or anyone who opens a share link you create). We also use it in aggregate and de-identified form to understand how the calculator is used and to make it better.

When you enter information about someone else — a homeowner, a client — you confirm you are allowed to, and you are responsible for handling it lawfully. Our Privacy Policy, when published, describes in more detail what we collect and why; until then the rules above apply.

If you delete your account, we delete your projects and reports within thirty days, except for billing records we are required to keep.

7. Things you may not do

Use TAPEMEN the way a colleague would. In particular, do not:

  • copy, resell, rent or offer the Service or its outputs as your own product, or build a competing product from it;
  • reverse-engineer the software, scrape the site, or probe or disrupt our systems;
  • share a login, create several accounts to stretch a free allowance, or work around a seat or usage limit;
  • upload anything unlawful, or anything you do not have the right to upload;
  • remove or alter the TAPEMEN marks on a report in a way that misrepresents who produced the calculation.

8. Our property, your feedback

The software, the site, the designs, the report templates and the TAPEMEN name and marks belong to us or our licensors. Your subscription is a licence to use them, not a transfer of them.

If you send us an idea, a bug report or a suggestion — and we hope you do — we may use it without owing you anything for it.

9. Availability, changes and support

We work to keep TAPEMEN available and correct, and we fix problems as fast as a small team can. We do not promise the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may change or add features, and we may retire a feature with reasonable notice.

Support is by email at [email protected] and through the Feedback button on every page. A person answers, usually the same day, during California business hours.

10. Warranties and liability

EXCEPT AS EXPRESSLY STATED IN THESE TERMS, THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE, HOWEVER CAUSED. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS IF YOU HAVE PAID NOTHING.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those places these limits apply as far as the law permits. These limits are a basic part of the bargain that lets us sell a load calculator for the price of a roll of tape.

You agree to cover us against claims that arise from your breach of these Terms, from data you had no right to upload, or from your use of the Service in violation of law.

11. Ending things

You can stop using TAPEMEN and delete your account at any time from My account, or by writing to [email protected].

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these Terms, endangers the Service or other users, or has an unpaid balance more than fifteen days after we asked. We may also end the Service or a plan for our own reasons with at least thirty days' notice; if we do, we refund the unused part of any prepaid term.

Sections that by their nature should survive — your data rights, our property, the disclaimers and liability limits, and dispute resolution — survive the end of the agreement.

12. Disputes

Talk to us first. Write to [email protected] describing the problem and we will try in good faith to sort it out within thirty days.

If we cannot, any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service will be resolved by binding arbitration before a single arbitrator under the Commercial Arbitration Rules of the American Arbitration Association, held in Alameda County, California (or by video if both sides agree). The Federal Arbitration Act governs this clause. Either side may instead bring a qualifying claim in small-claims court, and either side may ask a court for an injunction to protect its intellectual property or confidential information.

CLAIMS MUST BE BROUGHT INDIVIDUALLY. NEITHER SIDE MAY BRING OR TAKE PART IN A CLASS, COLLECTIVE OR REPRESENTATIVE PROCEEDING, AND THE ARBITRATOR MAY NOT CONSOLIDATE CLAIMS. IF THIS WAIVER IS FOUND UNENFORCEABLE FOR A PARTICULAR CLAIM, THAT CLAIM ALONE WILL BE HEARD IN COURT.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.

13. The rest

These Terms, together with the plan and price you chose at checkout, are the whole agreement between us about the Service. If a checkout page and these Terms disagree, the checkout page controls only the price, plan, seats and term.

We may update these Terms. When we do, we post the new version here with a new date and, for changes that matter, email account holders at least thirty days before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after that date means you accept the update; if you do not, cancel before it.

Neither side may assign this agreement without the other's consent, except to a successor in a merger or sale of the business. Neither side is liable for delays caused by events outside its reasonable control. If a clause is found unenforceable, the rest stands. Not enforcing a clause once is not a waiver of it. We are independent parties; nothing here makes us partners, agents or employees of each other.

Customer names and logos are not used in our marketing without written permission.
