TAPEMEN

ABOUT

Built by the trades, for the trades.

TAPEMEN is a project of Voltyx, a licensed electrical contractor in Fremont, California. We build the tools we wished we had on our own jobs — and we price them the way we would want to pay for them.

The company

Voltyx has been serving homes and commercial buildings across the Bay Area since 2022. Our days are spent in the field: main panel and service upgrades, EV chargers and battery systems, troubleshooting, and the everyday work that keeps a building running. That field experience is where every feature of TAPEMEN starts.

Within the same team we are growing into other California trades — C-20 HVAC and C-36 plumbing — so what we build here is meant to be useful to plumbers and HVAC technicians as much as to electricians.

The author

I'm Tim — a licensed electrician in the State of California and the owner of Voltyx. TAPEMEN is my project: I am its author and, so far, its only developer. It was built between jobs, by someone who uses it on his own permits.

That also means the best way to make it better is to tell me what you ran into. The Feedback button on every page comes straight to me, and I read every message.

Why this exists

The project has a few goals. The first is to put affordable — and where possible, free — software into the hands of people who work in the field, so the paperwork side of the trade takes less of the day. The second is fair pricing: many of the tools we rely on are simple, and today they can be built without a large development team. A load calculation should cost about as much as a roll of tape.

The third is responsibility. A calculation that a permit desk relies on has to be right, so the accuracy of the numbers and the data behind them comes first. The interface may not always be the most polished, and that is a trade-off we are comfortable making — the fundamentals are what we hold to a high standard.

Looking ahead, we would like to bring the same approach to the consumables electricians, plumbers and HVAC technicians buy every week. Materials and software are both part of where this project is going. And if you work in the trades and have an idea or a proposal, we would like to hear it — write to us, and we will look for a way to build it together.

The team

The Voltyx team is small and close-knit. We work together, and we spend time together outside of work — team outings are a regular part of how we do things. If you would like to join one, send a note to and we will share the events calendar.
